Fun Family Fishing Charters

This is what it is all about. Yesterday and today we had some great families aboard for some half day trips. Even thought some of the older generations had been offshore a lot, they chose a half day so they could bring the young folks along for their first fishing experiences.

Really good spanish mackerel fishing both days!

Great Offshore Meat Fishing

I’m telling y’all, this may sound like a broken record, but our offshore fishing this spring has been off the charts. Very consistent good fishing.

Yesterday we had a great group of experienced fishermen (and women) on board. We started the day in a mess of yellowfins, and managed to land a handful of really nice fish. After that bite died down we moved on and found some blackfins and gaffer dolphins.

Today the ocean was completely different, but we had a great group of folks from VA down, and after a little searching found just what we were looking for. Ended up bringing home 28 blackfin tuna, 3 big gaffer dolphin, and two wahoo! Over 200 lbs of meat, and near constant action.

We have a lot of half days coming up the rest of the week, and then are back offshore over the weekend.

Give us a call and lets go fishing!

Incredible Day!

Even a day later as I write this i’m still in disbelief at what we witnessed yesterday out on the ocean. Bear with me, as this report may get a bit long winded.

We had a great crew who all wanted to go chase a blue marlin. I had been tracking a little piece of cooler water the originated in the gulf stream down off of Wilmington NC. There had been a good sign of marlins in this water as it moved up the coast, so we were hopeful that if we could find it we might be able to get a bite or two…. Little did we know.

We struck out at 5am for a longer than normal run down to the southern end of our fishing range. After two hours of running, we set lines out in 100 fathoms of water and began looking around. The eddy that we were looking for had shoved inshore, and so we trolled offshore for looking for where the eddy met the gulf stream current.

At about 220 fathoms we found the edge, which was absolute alive with activity. Flying fish everywhere, big grass line, 3 degree temp break, basically the perfect conditions. It didn’t take long at all; before we even made it to the edge the mate hollers RIGHT SHORT, THATS HIM! A nice blue marlin crashed the right short, left a big hole, and steamed off, screaming drag on the reel. We got our angler in the chair, and began to clear the remaining lines. Before we could give chase, this fish came up on top and in the process of jumping around, threw the hook.

Fast forward to the end of the day, and we ended up seeing 12 BLUE MARLIN!! We had 9 teaser bites, including a double header teaser bite, and lots of really aggressive fish.

We managed to hook seven of our 9 bites, but just couldn’t hang on to them. When the dust all settled we had released 2 nice blue marlin, including a fat 400lber.

First, we are excited to announce that Ocracoke has set May 21st as the date it will reopen for visitors. We are so excited to get going again.

We just hate you are missing out on this incredible fishing.

The Drumstick crew took a few locals out today and absolutely smoked the tuna. Limits around by around 2 and they were heading home.

Give us a call and get your trip on the calendar now. We have some late May and June days still available that promise to be spectacular.

Gotta Love Spring Fishing in the Outer Banks

We took a break from #quarentinelife and Hurricane Dorian repairs to sneak offshore this week. The fishing was fantastic. Yellowfins, wahoo, blackfins, and plenty of bottom fish. Cooler wouldn’t shut by 1pm.
We are VERY hopeful that the restrictions for visitor access to Ocracoke will be lifted towards the end of May and we can start taking trips again.
Please give us a call to line up your summer Outer Banks Ocracoke charter fishing dates. We have updated our deposit policies to reflect the unpredictable times we are living in.
As a side note, we also have a large fish weigh station at our dock. Looking forward to hanging some big fish up there this summer!
