We have had some computer issues here lately, and due to the fact that we live on Ocracoke, and NOTHING is easy to get repaired, it has been a slow process. I borrowed someones computer to post a quick update.
Just because the reports have been slack doesn’t mean the fishing has. We have been going very steady up until this really hard Nor’easter blow that showed up several days ago. Hopefully we will be back out there tomorrow.
With so many trips since my last Ocracoke fishing report It would take me the whole day to recount them all. I’m just going to pick one of my favorites. On September 8th we had one of the best days of offshore billftshing I have ever seen here in Ocracoke. We were 1-2 on blue marlin, and 6-12 on sailfish, and saw who knows how many more! Just an incredible day with non-stop action. Thats why I love Gulfstream fishing. The day before had been very slow for us, just not many bites. We showed up the next day and it was a completely different ocean overnight. Bait, life, and lots of hungry fish. You just never know what you will see out in the wild blue yonder!
As the water temperature starts to fall we are going to begin seeing more and more wahoo and tuna offshore. Plenty of days available in October, lets go fishing!
Capt. Rob
I didn’t realize until I logged in to to write this report how long it had been since my last report. We have been really lucky to have some great weather these past weeks, and we have been fishing almost every day. I’m going to catch up all at once here:
Offshore – Last week we had really good dolphin fishing, and caught a blue marlin and jumped off another. This week the trolling bite was much slower, but we made the most of it with some awesome bottom fishing trips; limits of triggerfish and snapper almost every day. We also released a sailfish on Friday.
Yesterday was a very special day. We started out the day catching two out of four wahoo, and a few blackfin tuna. The crew decided they wanted to go look for something bigger, so off we went to the deep. Our first swordfish drop we hooked up in about 5 minutes. We got the fish to the leader in about 20 minutes, but right before we gaffed it, it pulled the hook; about an 80lber that we got the release on. Next drop we were able to hook a larger fish, and had it to the boat in about half an hour. My mate Hayden made a great harpoon shot, and after the fish took the buoy over and pulled it around for a little bit, we were able to get the gaff in a nice 150lb swordfish. One more quick drop resulted in another hookup, but unfortunately this fish pulled off about halfway up. WHAT A DAY!
Nearshore – Absolutely outstanding large 3lb bluefish and spanish mackerel fishing happening lately here around the inlet. We have had a lot of great trips around the inlet lately limiting out quickly several times.
PLEASE EXCUSE THE CAPITALIZATION, KEYBOARD HAS MALFUNCTIONED.
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW, I HAVE BEEN LAX WITH MY REPORTS LATELY. WE HAVE BEEN GOING EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG NOW. I AM SO THANKFUL FOR OUR WONDERFUL CUSTOMERS AND THIS BEAUTIFUL WEATHER THAT HAS ALLOWED US TO FISH SO MUCH LATELY.
NOW ONTO THE FISHING. SINCE MY LAST REPORT, THE TROLLING BITE OFFSHORE HAD A BIT OF A LULL. NO PROBLEM, WE WENT TO THE BOTTOM AND HAD SOME GREAT CATCHES OF SNAPPER AND TRIGGERFISH.
TODAY THE BITE HEATED BACK UP, AND WE CAUGHT 35 DOLPHIN, PLUS SOME TILEFISH AND A NICE SNOWY GROUPER. LOTS OF BILLFISH WERE SEEN TODAY. HAD A REALLY AWESOME FAMILY ON BOARD THAT WE HAD A BLAST FISHING WITH.
NEARSHORE THIS WEEK WE HAVE HAD SOME REALLY GOOD CATCHES OF SPANISH MACKEREL. WE HAVE ALSO HAD A LOT OF WRECK TRIP HALF DAY CHARTERS LATELY, AND THE AMERJACKS HAVE BEEN AS THICK AS I’VE EVER SEEN THEM.
WE HAVE SOME DAYS LEFT IN JULY, AND PLENTY IN AUGUST AND INTO THE FALL. GIVE US A RING AND LETS GO FISHING!
APOLOGIES FOR THE ALL CAPS. MY COMPUTER KEYBOARD IS MESSED UP.
GOOD OFFSHORE FISHING FOR US THIS WEEK. YESTERDAY WE HAD 4 WAHOOS AND TWO REALLY NICE YELLOWFINS.
TODAY WE CAUGHT 50 DOLPHIN AND A WAHOO.
GOTTA LOVE SUMMERTIME FISHING OFFSHORE!
HALF DAY NEARSHORE AND WRECKS TOMORROW, SEE WHAT WE CAN FIND!
I HAVE SOME DATES OPEN IN JULY, GIVE ME A CALL AND LETS GO.
ROB
Whewww… We are fishing every day now, it that time of the year. Its pretty much eat, fish, work on the boat, and every now and then sleep.
Haven’t had much time to keep up with my reports.
On Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, we were offshore. Sunday and Monday dolphin were the name of the game limits of them each day. Really really good dolphin fishing. Tuesday I managed to drive around the fish all day. We had to stay a little late but we managed a good catch of 30 bottom fish and 25 dolphins.
Wednesday and Thursday we were half day fishing. Really good amberjack fishing on the wrecks, and spanish mackerel inshore. We also caught a nice cobia today. Fun family charter fishing here in Ocracoke.
We are booked pretty much ever day but one for the next week, so hopefully lots of good reports to continue!
We have trips available in July, so give us a call and let us put a trip together for you.
