Free Ranger Upgrade – Omni Sonar!

Big news! The Free Ranger is now equipped with a Simrad SY50 Omni fish finding sonar. If you are unsure of what this is, or why it is so important to have, continue reading below! This equipment has truly revolutionized the sport fishing industry.

“Omni” stands for Omni-directional 360 scanning sonar. This technology originally came from the navy, and was first adapted for large commercial tuna fishing vessels (think over 150′ vessels). Just in the last 5 years or so have several companies modified this equipment to fit into sport fishing vessels. When turned on, they can scan up to 5000′ in all directions around your vessel! Before while fishing, we were covering a 20′ width of water while trolling. Now with the Omni sonar, we can potentially cover up to a 2 mile swath of water each pass!

This is a game changer for offshore fishing, and we are very excited to put it to use this season. Marlin, sailfish, wahoo, and tuna beware!
